 Assalamu alaykum, Everyone.

For the last few months, I've been searching for a free modern calligraphy painting course. But there is no such course that I can learn from Basic.

After researching more, I could find some videos and blogs on different platforms. But this process is lengthy and time-consuming, so I decided to publish a course for beginners to advanced levels.

Here, I'm going to share my learning calligraphy journey and also tools, tricks and techniques, essential info, and research.

Whoever wants to learn modern Arabic calligraphy stays with us.

The word calligraphy means elegant handwriting. From this meaning, we can find two different points that Writing should be beautiful and handwritten lettering. When calligraphy was discovered, no digital machines like computers, graphic tabs, etc.; people did calligraphy with handwritten lettering. But nowadays, we see digital calligraphy made from computers and graphic tabs. And here, we are going to learn handwritten calligraphy.

Every language has calligraphy or elegant handwritten lettering, .but today, we are going to learn about Arabic calligraphy with a double pencil.

There are two types of Arabic  calligraphy

1. Traditional calligraphy.

In traditional calligraphy, we use glossy paper, ink, and bamboo pen.

2. calligraphy painting

We mainly focus on calligraphy painting.

Here, handwritten lettering and painting are complementary of both. You have to learn both perfectly for calligraphy painting.

(From sketch to painting)

Learning step :

  1. Lettering
  2. Joint letter
  3. Sentence sketch
  4. Sentence composition
  5. Painting (watercolor painting, then acrylic  painting)

Tools:

  • Two pencils are needed; it could be any pencil, but HB and 2B are best for lettering.
  • Binding rubber
  • Eraser, specially non-dust eraser.
  •  Sharper.
  • White page /exercise book.

Preparing double pencil for modern calligraphy :

  •  Pick two pencils from your box.
  •  Take a binding rubber.
  • Tie those pencils with rubber.

Technique for holding a pencil for Arabic calligraphy.

You should bind the edge of the pencils obliquely. Then we hold those pencils at a 60°-65° angular position. That means when we write, we have to keep a pencil at an angular position. Many scholars say that 60 % of calligraphy depends on how you hold your pencil. To make the font size bigger for calligraphy, you must increase the gap between the two pencils by inserting paper on their front side. Again, to make the font size smaller, you must add paper on the backside of the pencils.

At the advanced level, you can write calligraphy without binding pencils by increasing and decreasing the gap with your fingers.

Practice

  •  Draw the Top to the bottom line
  • Draw Bottom to the top line
  • Draw Circle
  •  Draw Right to the left line
  • Draw left to the right line
  • Draw Quadrangle
  •  Draw a curved line.

Practice those things for free your hand with double pencil.

He states that this work is becoming increasingly rare in today's society but is essential for achieving true mastery in a field. "Navigating the Shallows : Managing Logistical Tasks for Focused Success"

Shallow work is a term coined by Cal Newport in his book "Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World." It refers to non-cognitively demanding, logistical-style tasks, often performed while distracted. These tasks are easy to replicate and only create a little new value. Examples of shallow work include: Email and messaging:  Constant checking and responding to emails and messages can be a significant source of shallow work. Social Media: Scrolling through social media feeds, liking and commenting on posts, etc. Meetings:  Many meetings, particularly poorly planned or poorly run, can devolve into shallow work. Task switching:  Constantly switching between tasks can lead to shallow work, as the brain must reorient itself each time, wasting time and energy. Administrative tasks:  Filling out forms, scheduling appointments, and other administrative tasks can also be considered shallow work. Shallow work is not inherently wrong; some are necessary fo...

“Surviving in the Digital age: The Essential 21st- century skills.”

In the book  “Deep Work,”   Cal Newport  explains that 21st-century skills are not just about mastering technology but cultivating the ability to focus and think deeply. He argues that in a world where technology is constantly vying for our attention and disrupting our ability to focus, the ability to perform deep work is becoming increasingly valuable. Newport argues that the 21st-century skills that will be most valuable in the digital age are the ability to: Focus: The ability to eliminate distractions and stay focused on a task for long periods. The book defines ‘deep work’ as focusing without distractions on a cognitively demanding job. The book argues that deep work is becoming increasingly rare and valuable in today's economy, as more and more jobs require the ability to quickly process and analyze large amounts of information. There are several strategies for developing the ability to do deep work, including: 1. Setting clear goals and priorities: Identifyi...
